We did it!!!
On Monday night we were officially crowned most Romantic Wedding Venue 2016 in the English Wedding Awards.
We were well aware before setting it was an extremely fierce category – it’s one thing to be named a top wedding venue, but the most romantic… well that’s what couples can only dream of!
The awards were held at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly on Monday and aimed to congratulate and thank talented individuals and businesses dedicated to constantly delivering high-quality weddings.
What makes this award so special is nominations were cast across England with the public voting for their favourites to be crowned the best in the wedding industry. We receive so much wonderful feedback and comments from our brides on how romantic and different our venue is, so to be nominated by our coupes and be recognised on this scale is a huge honour.
This one definitely calls for a celebration!

We are delighted to announce Woodhill has been nominated for another award! It is for the 'Best Countryside Venue', fingers crossed!
A big thank you to everyone who nominated us for the WOW awards for the best wedding venue in Northumberland. It came as a huge surprise to us last week when we discovered a) we had been nominated and b) we were on the short list!! Team W are thrilled that Woodhill Hall has been recognised for this award. Thank you again to everyone for their support of our brand and what we stand for.

Been a fabulously busy time at Woodhill Hall. We met by chance a commercial interior designer called Simon Bartlett who has transformed the dining room and new bar into some really cool spaces. We are just finishing the bar off but wow it is so much fun. I am sad to see the fish wallpaper go but it was time for an update in that room. Simon is also involved in helping renovate the courtyard which already was an amazing spot for drinks receptions, a real sun trap but now it is going to be even more amazing............so watch this space for photos once we have put the final touches to eveything or pop along to our Open Day to see what we have been up to. Our Open Day is on Saturday, 27th February between 1 and 4pm.

Been a busy few weeks here at Woodhill Hall. Team W and I dont seem to have stopped at all in January and the lead up to our first Open Weekend on the 6th and 7th February. The weekend was a great success with couples who have already booked and new couples coming to discover the delights that Woodhill Hall has to offer.
Our dining room area revamp has gone down a storm everyone loves it and are excited to see what is in store for the renovation of our bar area and courtyard which is happening on the heals of the dining room revamp. All exciting stuff.
Our next viewing day is set for the 27th February between 1 and 4pm so if you want to marry in our quirky, magical and cool venue then pop along and meet the amazing Team W and discuss your ideas for your wedding.

This will be our first Open Day of the New Year. So, if you’re looking for something a bit different for your wedding come along and see us at our open day. The Hall and the tepees will be all dressed up and sparkly, and our team on-hand ready to meet you and show you around the Hall if you haven’t been before.
2014 was a year full of fabulous weddings, with a host of happy couples, families and guests. It's a privilege to be involved in helping to create a couples magical wedding. We look forward to working closely with all our clients marrying in the forthcoming years and helping to create memories that will last a lifetime.
All the changes which are being undertaken during January will be unveiled at the open event, so there's always something "new" to see and Corrinne's new wallpaper choices are fantastic!

Our Final Open Day of the year. The Hall and the tepees will be all dressed up and our team ready to meet you and show you around the Hall if you havent been before.
This has been an incredible year full of fabulous weddings and lots of happy couples and their families. It has been a priveledge to be involved in helping create such magical weddings. When Chris and I purchased Woodhill many moons ago, we fell in love with the place half way up the drive. it is great to see the same reaction of couples who come and view and fall in love with Woodhill Hall.
We are often asked what do we do when we have no weddings at Woodhill Hall. Luckily we have very few weekends where we do not have a wedding on. What we do when it is quiet is start painting and refreshing the Hall to keep it to the high standard that we want. January is always a fun month and this January is no exception, the builders are coming!! We are revamping the Carriage House and moving the wetroom and putting in bath in that room as well. Karen Randells from Dickinsons in Hexham has been working with me to create a fabulous new room. The Rose room is also being revamped and we are going to be having a disabled toilet and bathroom in that room. I have fallen in love with some pink flamingo wallpaper as seen on Eastenders but we will see what that room ends up being decorated with!!! We are constantly doing tweeks around the Hall to keep things fresh and contemporary so watch this space!!!

I am finally catching my breathe after a hectic weekend on the 13th and 14th October. We welcomed back couples who had married at the Hall on the Saturday and hosted a Vintage Tea party. It was lovely to see so many couples at the Hall. Many went to view their tree that they planted and had brought their babies with them that they had since their wedding.
On the Sunday, we welcomed a lot of new couples to the Hall who came to have a look at the Hall as a venue for 2014 and onwards which is great.
This coming Friday, our regular holiday let guests will be coming back so it will be nice to see them again and interesting to see what they make of the changes at the Hall since they were here last year. Whilst they are here, it gives me an opportunity to get away for a couple of days and see if I can find any other treasures for the Hall with my husband. Those who knew about the zebra hunting in deepest darkest Oxford for the pod, unfortunately the Zebra with the Trilby hat was a bit too elusive for us!! I have recently visited O'Briens in Boldon, a bit nearer home and bought some quirky little things for the Hall.....no Zebras!!!!
We are delighted to announce that on Sat, 13th October we will be hosting a Vintage Tea Party for all those couples who have married at the Hall over the past four years that we have been holding weddings. The vintage Tea party will be held from 2 to 5pm. It is a opportunity for couples to come back and see their tree or if they have not had time to plant their tree on their wedding weekend to do so now. We look forward to welcoming couples back to Woodhill Hall which as many couples have described is a truly magical place!

Myself and my PA are busy organising a fabulous open day at Woodhill Hall on Sunday, 14th October between 1 and 4pm.
We have a host of wonderful suppliers coming to the Open Day from Annette who is bringing her doves which can be released to mark your special day, a caricaturist and our very own Candy Shack. We have decided to purchase a Candy Cart which will be available to hire for weddings with a range of sweets. We will also be using this quirky cart at several wedding fairs that we are attending for PR. If you are interested in hiring the Candy Shack for an event please do not hesitate to speak with Corrinne with regard to this.
Yvonne our in house chef will be there and launching her to new range of favours and chocolate bouquets which can be ordered for the rooms for your guests or as an alternative to traditional flowers for those chocoholics amongst us!
We have Wayne from Global Photography attending, Jo From Simply Bows, Hannah from Wild flower florists and several other suppliers. We will be providing tea and coffee and Yvonnes famous shortbread so we look forward to seeing you there.

We are also in the process of purchasing and hope to have it for the Open Day a fabulous vintage style candy shack which will be available for couples to hire as an alternative to traditional favours or as something different for the evening reception. We also plan to use this as a marketing stand when we attend the following wedding fairs namely:
Uk Wedding Show at Newcastle Race Course on the 7th October between 10 and 5pm.
St James Park now called the Sports Direct Arena on the 25th November between 12 and 4pm.

I can't beleive how this year is flying by. My cousin Georgina from Cyprus has been here 6 weeks helping me and is due to leave on Wednesday. This month, we have lots of lovely weddings to help with and catering. I also have the North East of England Wedding Awards Ceremony to look forward to at Beamish Hall on Sat, 15th September. I will be going along with my husband Chris and Paul Murray who helps me run the Hall and Neil Denham a lovley photorapher based in Bellingham who has also been short listed as well. We are the smallest wedding venue to be shortlisted and are thrilled about the nomination which is based on customer feedback. I have my dress and am really looking forward to the event.
At the end of the month, we will be attending the Sage Wedding Fair run by Dawn Marie which is a fabulous event where couples can meet all sorts of suppliers so if you do come, please say hello to us!!

It has been a rather busier time than expected. On Sat, 18th August, we hosted the wedding of Steve and Estelle, nothing unusual you may think but we only had four days notice of the wedding! Steve and Estelle had been due to have their wedding reception at Otterburn Hall on the Sat but only found out on the Tuesday that Otterburn Hall had closed. It was by chance that we were able to help Steve and Estelle out and everything turned out wonderfully. In fact the happy couple said it was as though it had always been planned at Woodhill Hall. They had a French contingent come to see them married and I had an opportunity to practise my french which at times I think my french teacher would have turned in her grave as it turned into "Franglais". We got wonderful comments with regard to our catering and particularly the lamb, the french contingent thought the lamb was better than in France so we were very pleased with their comments. I also spoke to a lot of distressed couples whose weddings were cancelled by Otterburn Hall on the phone who were ringing to see if we had vacancies but apart from some practical advice to contact the Registrars we were unable to assist.
Another person that has kept me busy is my new puppy Bertie ( a Bearded Collie) who Chris and I have had for 5 weeks. He has already won the cutest puppy of the week at the vets. We are proud puppy parents and think that Bertie is absolutely gorgeous, he is a fluff ball. Some couples have asked to see him and he has made several appearances resulting in stealing the show at times!!!
We have had lots of lovely weddings this month and we wish all the couples every happiness!

We are all very excited here as we learnt yesterday that we have been short listed as one of the finalist in the North of England Wedding awards. This is the first Awards ceremony that we have entered and are thrilled just to have been shortlisted and that is thanks to all the wonderful people who completed the online questionaire and voted for us as it is based on client feed back.
The results will be announced at Beamish Hall on Sat, 15th September so we will have to see. I suppose this is an excuse to get an outfit!!!

The past 7 days have been very busy at Woodhill Hall. We have had several weddings ranging from 3 course formal meals to our first festival wedding with a marquee in the field infront of the lower patio with the Bagdadies playing! They were the first live band to play at Woodhill at our first ever wedding, the bride a local folk singer, Rachael Unthank from the Winterset( now the Unthanks) insisted that if she was getting married then the Bagdaddies must play, that is now 4 years ago. Since Rachael and Adrian's wedding, we have held several weddings, all different and great fun!! This is the beauty of Woodhill Hall, we offer the felxibility to make your own mark and create your own special wedding weekend. We look forward to helping create more special wedding weekends at Woodhill and hope to see you at our Open Day on Sunday, 15th July between 10 and 2pm. Wow! We have a wonderful view weeks with lots of different style weddings at the Hall. We have had ice creams to BBQ's to Vintage Tea party wedding receptions on the Jubilee Weekend!! All the couples and their guests have had one thing in common and that is that they have had a fabulous time at Woodhill Hall as you can see from the lovely comments on our comments page! Everyone is loving our quirky bar with our reasonably priced drinks and great atmosphere and the moroccan lanterns lit in the courtyard at night!
We have met some lovely people at Woodhill Hall and quite a few we have stayed in touch with and are invited to our puppy party later this year. Unfortunately our old dog Henry who some of you may have met had to be put to sleep, he was 15 years old and was a lovely companion. We are planning to get another Beardie Boy from www.corimist.com, a kennels near Newcastle. It is such a small world as the couple who have the kennerls were invited to a wedding last wednesday at Woodhill Hall. We will keep you posted as to when we have get our new arrival!!
I am often asked about Taxi services in the area and local accommodation. With regard to Taxis, I would recommend that your guests use Ron Ingledew, a licensed taxi driver, who is reliable and cheaper than other taxi drivers in the area. Ron is able to arrange to come to the Hall and collect guests and ferry them to and from their accommodation both on a Friday and Saturday night or mid week if required. If you would like to use Ron's Taxi service then please ring him in advance on 07711400152 to book him.
In relation to accommodation, there are at least a 100 letting rooms in Otterburn itself and probably another 50 in a three mile radius of the Hall. Most of the accomodation providers are listed on www.wildredesdale.co.uk . One gem of a four star B&B that isnt on the above website as yet is the Holly Bush at Greenhaugh run by Mary Parker. Since my last news up date, Woodhill Hall is in full swing with weddings. The comments and feedback we have had from couples has been extremely positive which has thrilled everyone who works with me at Woodhill Hall. We strive to ensure that everything runs smoothly and that guests leave with happy memories of Woodhill Hall. Many of you know that from 2013 we are taking catering in house with Athena's kitchen and are working with couples and their budgets to provide good quality food at affordable prices. The feedback from the weddings where we have been doing the catering has been fabulous. Some of our up coming weddings where we are doing the catering including a bbq, three course wedding breakfast and Vintage Tea party. I met on Friday a lovely lady called Lynsey from the Whistling Bunting Company www.thewhistlingbunting.co.uk . I plan to hire a few cake stands from her for the forthcoming Vintage Tea party. Lynsey also has lots of unusual vintage props that are available to hire to add some quirkiness to your wedding festivities so if you have a chance please check out her wesbite.
I have just come back from the States having managed to squeeze in a lovely holiday for 2 weeks with my husband, Chris, before the start next weekend of a packed year of weddings. I am very excited about the weddings that we are hosting this year. The couples that have booked Woodhill Hall are all delightfully and the weddings are varied as a result of the flexibility that we are offering at the Hall. This year we are running the bars in house and have changed slightly our format for drinks to offer flat corkage fees which couples have found a very attractive option. I am also pleased to announce that Paul Murray has joined our team and will be working along side myself and Virginia Noble, my Event's Manager, to ensure that all weddings run smoothly. Paul as well as having substantial experience in the hospitality industry also provides maintance expertise and for the past several months has been helping me re decorate the Hall. We are now just putting the final touches to the decoration at the Hall ready for next weekend.

Since last updating the news page, we have had several more weddings. Our last event of the year was a 40th birthday celebration! On the 8th November, the builders commenced work on knocking through from the bar area to the dining room which is going to create additional space for dining and or another licensed ceremony room. The builders have dismantled the bar ready for it to be put in the new extension they are building at the rear of the Hall. Currently the Hall looks like a building site but as the saying goes you need to crack a few eggs to make an omelette!! I am very excited about the remodelling and the redecoration and am looking forward to seeing everyone's reaction when the Hall re opens on our viewing day! Great fun was had by all at the wedding last weekend. Freddie Mercury won one of the fancy dress prizes, we take small credit for his success as we lent him a hoover to add to the authenticity!!! The costumes were fabulous we had everyone from Gadaffi to Scooby do at Woodhill. I particularly liked the Barbie in a box costume!
Our traditional greek wedding meze got rave reviews from guests and the couple. A rather long day on Saturday from 6 am to 1am the next day but worth it to see such a happy group of guests. Great thanks goes to the team that helped me on the day.

This weekend we are hosting a wedding of a couple who like to bring a sense of fun to their wedding reception in the evening. They are hosting a fancy dress party so we will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Madonna, Stevie Wonder, Barbie!! During the day the couple are having our wonderful mediteranean meze as an alternative wedding breakfast prepared by Corrinne and her team.
At Woodhill Hall we offer the flexibility for couples to really let their imagination run riot and create a truly memorable event.

We would like to thank all our suppliers and helpers who exhibited and helped prepare the Hall for the viewing morning at Woodhill Hall on Sunday. On the day there was Jo Harris from Simply Bows; Hannah Price from Wild flower florist; Wayne Nobel from Global Photography; Andrew Taylor from Solosax; Yvonne Turnbull from Athena's Kitchen, Virginia Noble our Event's Manager. It was a excellent morning with lots of couples who have booked for their wedding coming to view with friends and family and new couples considering the venue for their wedding. We would also like to thank everyone who bought raffle tickets and helped support our fund raising event for the Alzheimer's Society and those who donated on line at justgiving.co.uk/vintagetea party and stayed for the Vintage Tea party in the afternoon. So far we have managed to raise £853.50 which is excellent as our aim was to hit the £1000 mark so we are not too far from that. Donations are still coming in so fingers crossed we reach the target.

From mid November we will be closing till February as the builders are coming in to do some plastering and re modelling of the bar and dining area. We would like to introduce you to a fablulously talented local lady, Yvonne McConnell who makes wonderful celebration and wedding cakes to your individual requirements less than a mile from the Hall. Yvonne's contact details are 07737001680 to arrange a consultation.
Yvonne is a trained Chef with over 20 years experience in the hotel and catering industry. Yvonne has made wedding and birthday cakes locally for a long time and is passionate about the cakes that she makes. We have also teamed up with her to offer guests additional catering services over the weekend of your stay, whether for a birthday or wedding with an emphasis on using local ingredients to create some lovely dishes.
We can offer Curry nights to more traditional cuisine either on a drop off basis or as a served meal. For more information with regard to catering options please contact Corrinne Knight.

I just want to thank everyone who came out in the pouring rain to bring family and friends to view Woodhill Hall and to meet with some of our recommended suppliers on Sunday, 6th February. I understand from everyone that the afternoon went well and that the Vintage Tea party was a roaring success!
I also want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who sent me their condolences and kind thoughts following the sudden death of my mum, Athena which were really appreciated.
This is an ideal opportunity for those who have booked the Hall for their wedding to come along with friends and family to have a look at the most recent renovations we have carried out and to meet recommended suppliers and discuss your requirements for your special day.
